The Liebster Award #2

Hey my little grindylows, how are you all feeling this week?

I’m finally a little bit more settled in my new pad, helped by the fact that after two weeks of sitting on the floor OUR SOFA HAS ARRIVED AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL. Anyway, this is a book blog, not an interior design blog (crossover potential?!) and I’m now on a mission to get back into some semblance of a reading and blogging schedule. I feel like I’ve definitely neglected the blogging community over the last few weeks, but hopefully now I’m back on it! If you have any awesome posts that I may have missed, feel free to share them with me in the comments. I’d love, love, love to catch up!

Seven and a bit months into blogging and I still get a lovely feeling that warms my little heart whenever some kind soul nominates my humble corner of the internet for an award, or tags me in a post. The biggest of big thank yous go to Holly at Nut Free Nerd, Zainab at A Bibliophile’s Obsession and The Jouska Blog for tagging me. Please head over and check out their posts and their blogs – they’re all wonderfully talented and definitely deserve your time. 🙂

I’m gonna have a pop at answering three questions from each blogger, else you guys will be asleep by about midway down. Good? Great. Let’s go.

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you
  • Nominate 11 bloggers that you think are deserving of the award
  • Give them 11 questions of your own

Jouska’s Questions

What do you love most about blogging?

You guys, of course! Readers, commenters, browsers, people I can chat Harry Potter with without them getting bored within three minutes, bloggers I can connect with Twitter about feminism or mental health in YA, writers and bibliophiles and chums from all over the world who share my passion for reading and literature. You all make blogging so much more awesome than I ever thought it would be.

What’s your all-time favourite movie?

Aside from ‘what’s your favourite book?’ this is like the world’s hardest question. I watch a lot more widely than I read, so I can happily go from Bridget Jones’ Diary to The Karate Kid (incidentally two of my favourite films) without batting an eyelid. For this one I’m gonna go with an epic classic – The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Which book makes you laugh out loud?

Covers from Goodreads

Definitely Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison. This series gives me proper milk-snorting, face-hurting, uncontrollable giggles, no matter how many times I read it. So funny, so relateable and so, so heartfelt.

Word of advice: Not one for the tube. People don’t seem to appreciate a solo female with uncontrollable giggles on their morning commute into London Paddington.

Holly’s Questions

Where is your next travel destination?

Ahhh I’m one of these people who makes these incredibly detailed fantasy travel plans with names of hotels and places to go and see and then never actually manages to follow through with them due to work/money/life/the irritating condition that is being an adult and having responsibilities. My boyfriend and I are going to try and get away to Italy next year, but if we’re talking travel fantasies here, I’d go to Vietnam.

What is an item on your bucket list?

Great question! One of the top things on my bucket list at the moment is to go to Universal Studios in Florida. Two words: Harry Potter.

Where do you buy most of you books from?

I usually buy my books from Waterstones or a physical bookshop. Sure, books are cheaper from Amazon or the Book Depository, but I always feel a bit cheated out of the experience of buying a book if I can’t browse the shelves with a coffee, or fall in love with a book on the half price table that I’ve never heard of before. For me, half of the fun of buying books is in the browsing. #bookshelfporn

Zainab’s Questions

What does your perfect day look like?

Food. Lots of food and lots of books. Nah, on a serious note, my perfect day would involve being on holiday with good friends or my family (or both!), swimming and reading on the beach, followed by a delicious dinner outdoors and a few eensy weeny drinks of the alcoholic variety. Bonus happy points for anything that comes with an umbrella or a sparkler because that’s just the sort of classy girl I am.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

Definitely the mid-late eighties! I’m obsessed with big hair, stonewashed jeans, eighties music and the Brat Pack. Unfortunately, very few of these things (if any) are socially acceptable any more.

Bon Jovi is still acceptable, right? RIGHT?

Your pet peeves?

I have a few, but not that many of them are blog appropriate…haha! I HATE people who drive really slowly on the motorway, as well as people who read messages on WhatsApp and then don’t reply. Dude, I know you’ve seen it the little blue ticks tell me so.

My questions:

  1. Who would you cast to play you in a film of your life?
  2. How do you organise your bookshelves?
  3. Pizza or pasta?
  4. What’s your ideal Friday night activity?
  5. If you could only watch one TV show for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  6. What makes you laugh?
  7. Do you believe in fate?
  8. What’s your one must-have blogging resource?
  9. What’s your dream job?
  10. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child: Canon or fan-fiction?
  11. What’s your guiltiest Netflix pleasure?

I tag these talented little bugs:

I know lots of you will likely have been nominated before, so no pressure if you’ve already done it or you’re just not feeling it.

  1. Great answers for this tag Sammie, I really loved reading them! I agree that the community is definitely the best part of blogging, I love talking to everyone on here so so much, I just wish I had more time to comment each evening so I could talk to everyone for longer! I don’t think I’d be able to pick a favourite movie either, it’s like the favourite book questions isn’t it?
I would love to go to Vietnam one day, but I really hope you enjoy Italy as well, it’s a wonderful country so I think you’ll really love it there! Have you been before? Also yes to the Harry Potter part of Universal Studios, I would LOVE to go there myself one day as well! 😀
People who drive slow in general are one of my pet peeves, I always get stuck behind them as well! :/
    Great answers Sammie! 😀

    • Thank you, Beth! 😀 Definitely – that’s always my feeling as well. I never have enough time to talk to everyone as much as I’d like to. Totally! My favourite film changes almost weekly, so it’s like a ridiculously impossible question for me to answer haha. Plus, you can’t really compare Billy Elliot and LOTR haha! No I’ve never been! Sad times. I think I’d come back about three stone heavier, but I’m okay with it. It’s the food that makes me really want to travel there. Omg how amazing does it look? I wish we had one in the UK haha. Tell me about it! Nightmare. Thank you! ❤

      • That’s all right! 😀 Some days I have more time than others but it’s ever enough is it? I wouldn’t say mine changes every week but it’s more like I have so many options for my favourite film I can never settle on just one. No that’s a comparison which doesn’t really work at all! 😀
Yeah same here, oh the food in Italy is amazing, but I love Italian food in general. 😀
        Yeah same here! ❤

  2. Welcome back!!! I’m glad you are getting settled in and will be back to the grind of blogging! Side note- there will be no crossing over into interior design, I will not allow it.

I have a confession to make. I am going to Florida in February… however we decided to NOT do Universal Studios when we go… ((holding up white flag)). Since we have a 10 year old AND a 3 year old, we felt that Disney World will be more appealing to BOTH kids this trip and to hold off on Universal Studios until our youngest is old enough to enjoy it. Trust me, this decision killed me a little bit on the inside as I love me some HP. I hope this confession has not lessened your opinion of me.

Um. I’ll go back to the 80’s with you! I look fabulous in neon colors lol

    Thanks for the tag!

    • Thank you my love! I say that but I’m just so busy haha. Getting there though. 🙂 Damn it – I thought I’d found my niche. 😉 Oh my god I can imagine what a killer decision that was. I don’t know if I’d be able to be that selfless haha. Props to you though, it definitely makes sense to go when they’re both old enough to get the most enjoyment out of it and it’ll still be there when they’re ready. 🙂 Yaaaaaaas! Let’s crack out those leg warmers and get down the hairdressers for a perm. My pleasure!

  3. Thank you so much for the tag!! I really enjoyed reading your answer and I’m with you on Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. Those books are hilarious. I adored them in high school, after they released a movie for it my friends I binge read the series together. 😊

  4. Thanks for the tag Sammie ❤ I loved your answers! I fully support going back to the 80s. Bon Jovi is ALWAYS acceptable in my book haha. And I'd love to go to Universal Studios in Florida, too! Even though I haven't read Harry Potter yet (I know…I've seen the movies though, so does that count? Have I redeemed myself?), I'd still love to go and see what all the hype is about 😀 Those are my exact pet peeves. LOL I can't stand slow drivers, even though I have no car and I don't really drive. I just get annoyed as a passenger. Imagine how I'd be WITH a car. #killerontheloose

  5. Thank you for the tag! And the ’80s still rock! Hello, remember Poison? Meatloaf? Brett Michaels before his bus full o’ skanks? Ahh, memories. And awesome lunchboxes. Everything good came out of the 80s…like me! Lol!
